All in a day's work. I always thought doing a photo shoot would be sooooo glamorous. Actually, it's a lot of work and many awkward moments.....lol.

A gazillion pictures were taken, but only a very select few can be used....{#emotions_dlg.blushing} LOL.   I'm the reluctant model.  Actually it was fun and funny!!  BUT - I sure hope we don't need new headshots for another 10 years!!!!  {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

Lucky, Lucky April Birthstone Babies!

As the famous blonde bombshell once said, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!”

Known for their fire, shine, facets and brilliance, they sparkle like no other gemstone.  They are in fact the hardest natural substance on the Earth.  They rate a 10 on the Moh’s hardness scale.  Their durability and timeless beauty has kept women – and men – entranced forever.  The earliest written account of diamonds dates back to around 500 B.C.!!!   Most diamonds found in nature are between one to three billion years old – that’s Billion with a B!!!   {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Whether they are white, blue, yellow, champagne, chocolate, green, purple, pink or red – we ADORE these beauties;  we cherish them;  and we hand them down as the perfect heirloom – a family treasure!

Diamonds can mean “I’ll love you forever".  They can also mean “I’ll love ME forever!”  They can signify a promise; they can be all about Flash; they can be total adornment.  Diamonds are a classic, they go with everything and NOTHING sparkles quite like this pure beauty.

April baby – you are one Lucky girl!!  The rest of us have to think up reasons to own diamonds………..you…….it’s just your birthstone!  {#emotions_dlg.w00t} Tell me why you love your diamond!  Post a picture, tell me your story and ……………………………………….. Sparkle On baby – SPARKLE ON!!!!

Take a look at these gorgeous pieces I chose for this month's blog!

My Diamond Story

Diamonds can be small and diamonds can be big, but when they are given to you, from someone special, they all mean the same thing... I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!

My husband and I met in college. We were best of friends for the first three years, but by Senior year.. We got all goo-goo, crazy in love with each other (that's a story for another time, LOL)...

While he was in school, he worked at a movie theater, as the "ticket taker", to help support himself. He saved every penny and proudly went shopping for my engagement ring. (It must have been pretty scary for him, walking into a store and not knowing what his money could buy and not even knowing what he was looking for).

As he puts it, "I plopped down the $215 and asked for the biggest diamond ring I could get!"  The sales lady gave him 1/10th of a ct, in a high Tiffany setting, set in yellow gold.

When Chris gave me the ring, I couldn't have been. more happy. It was THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ring in the world to me. I knew how hard he worked and I knew that he loved me. The most joy came from knowing that we would be together forever. I remember when people wanted to see the ring, I held out my hand with such pride. Some would share my joy and others would remark on how small it was, or how 'cute' it was, or even ask me when the 'real' ring was coming. I would just smile, because I knew I had the love of my best friend forever.

Over 27 years have passed since then, three kids, 10 used cars and better paying jobs. When Chris offers to upsize my engagement ring, I always say, "SURE, but you can't use 'baby' for a trade in. If you want something bigger, it's gotta be on a new dime."  I would never trade in that ring. It means so much to me. I keep it safely tucked away with my very special pieces of jewelry, keepsakes and heirlooms...Don't get me wrong, the upsize came... I'm no fool!!

Every now and then I take "baby" out. We both look at it and reflect on the commitment that $215 bought, all those years ago. He still jokes,"Wanna trade it in?"...I smirk,"Nope and I'll keep you too".

Sooooo.... Big or small... They ALL mean the same thing... I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!

And here we are now .... sometimes from the smallest things, come the biggest and the best.... our Family!

My Most Special Gold Jewelry Piece

Tradition, History, Keepsake, Heirloom... My most precious piece of gold jewelry is all of that and then some.  {#emotions_dlg.wub}

On my Parent's wedding day, my father gave my mother an 18kt gold ring, as a wedding gift. It was in addition to her gold wedding band. The ring unfolds, in blooming petals, of white and yellow gold.  My Mother wore it on her wedding day and I love seeing it in the black and white photos.

As far back as I can remember and starting at a very young age, my Mom would gather all four of her daughters in her bedroom. We would sit on her bed, in a circle, look at all her jewelry and she would tell us the story and meaning behind each keepsake. My sisters and I would try on each piece and as the pieces would slip off of our little fingers, I always wondered about the day that the ring would fit.

My Mother would then go around our mother/daughter circle and ask each one of us, "Which piece would you want someday?"... Ma went in the order of birth, with her question and I had to wait my turn.  Ahhhhh my eyes gleamed and I sat with baited breath, hoping my two older sisters would not choose my ring (I'm number 3, out of 4).  When she finally got to me, I was elated to see that the ring was still in the items of choice. My Ma knew which one I wanted, maybe it was mother's intuition, maybe it was because I would squirm every time someone came close to picking it or maybe because I never took my eyes off of it. In any event, I chose the ring.

Year after year, and as we grew, my Ma would gather her girls on her bed and we would visit our pieces. Time after time, we confirmed our chosen keepsake. On my wedding day, both of my Parents presented me with the ring. It meant so very much to me, that my mother wore it on her wedding day and now, I would be wearing it on my wedding day. I respect, love, admire and honor my parents. I hoped to have the same union as they did. The ring represents so much... Aspiring to my parents commitment, growing into a dream and fulfilling a future that was hoped for.

Some day, my daughter, Hope, will wear that ring on her wedding day.... I hope that doesn't come too soon, because I don't want to part with the ring!! Lol

Enchanting Emeralds - May's Birthstone

As spring dances into our world, all the color and beauty of nature bursts and blooms around us.  May Babies - it's all because of you!  {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Emeralds, rich in color and intense glow, give us that gorgeous, saturated green shade that we have been thirsting for all winter long.... and this one was especially long!   {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Emeralds obviously have been enchanting human beings for thousands of years. They were sold in the markets of Babylon 4000 BC.  As a matter of fact, a fine emerald can be more expensive than a high quality diamond of the same carat weight.  I especially like the style of this emerald ring - our14K Premier 0.80 ct tw Zambian Emerald & 1/10 cttw Ring.

These gems can be found all over the world, from Africa to Asia and there are even emeralds found in the United States. But some of the most valuable emeralds come from Colombia in South America.  This ring pairs the bright, intense green of three Zambian emeralds wrapped with a ribbon of diamonds - in our 0.60 ct tw Zambian Emerald Oval 3 Stone Sterling Ring.

Emeralds are in the beryl family and they rate a 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. Compare that to turquoise at 5 to 6 and diamonds, the hardest substance, at 10. In the photo below, I am wearing our classic design 14K Gold 0.35 ct tw Brazilian Emerald Band Ring.

They can be cut in many different shapes but are most often seen in the classic "emerald" cut, round or a gently rounded cabochon, such as the one you see in this ring - our 1.50 ct tw Emerald Cabochon and Pave Sterling Ring. But, no matter the cut, that vivid intense green lets everyone know exactly what your birthstone is!  Smile

Emeralds are known for having inclusions and flaws - and each one's are as unique as a fingerprint.  As a matter of fact, a completely different system of gemstone grading is used on emeralds because these flaws are completely acceptable.  Actually, many people prefer such flaws in the gem as they confirm the gemstone's authenticity.  Wouldn't the world be an amazing place if our flaws were more accepted and celebrated - like those of your birthstone?  After all, we are all gems, right?  {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

So - Happy Happy Birthday May Babies - your stone is almost as precious and unique as you all are!!!

XO,

A

Precious Pearls - June's Birthstone

June babies, you are blessed with a gift from the ocean - Pearls.  Those gorgeous sterling silver leverback ringed pearl earrings and those cultured pearl and mother of pearl line bracelets are perfect examples.

These true treasures are found hidden within not just oysters and mussels – but also in our Honora Collection on QVC

Our pearls are so much above the others because of the high concentration of nacre’ – which allows the pearl to be, not only more lusturous and stunning – but also more durable and able to withstand everyday wear.  Check out that glow and color saturation on those 2 sets of 2 Cultured Pearl 6.0mmSet of 2 Stretch Bracelets ... and they are even named for the sea - Splash for the blue and Coral Reef for the peach tones.

June babies you get luster, glow, beauty and the actual finger print of Mother Nature herself.  Just like a fingerprint, each and every pearl is unique. No two are alike, and all have some imperfections. (don’t we all!  {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Pearls are the ONLY gemstone that is made by animals.  And, even better news, the harvesting of the pearls from the mollusks does not kill the animals, as they can be re-implanted and used to make more pearls.

Don't miss that gorgeous ring in the photo above....it is our sterling pearl and gemstone ring!

Pearls are both earthy and ethereal.  It remains the only gemstone that is exclusive to women and it’s femininity is celebrated!   Soft curves are always evident, whether the pearl is round, baroque, keshi or coin shaped.

The oldest known pearl jewelry fragment was found in the sarcophagus of a Persian princess who died in 520 BC.  They have always rated “Heirloom status” – passed down from generation to generation of women who were lucky enough to have them.  Now, we are lucky enough to live in the age that we do… where pearls are readily available in all colors, shapes and styles…..from classic to trendy.

Picture Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel – and pearls immediately come to mind.  They take on the essence of the woman that wears them – becoming a signature.  So, enjoy your gorgeous birthstone June girls – and wear them proudly…. one final piece of pearl trivia:

In 1916, Jacques Cartier (yes – THAT Cartier!!!!) bought his 5th Avenue store by trading two pearl necklaces for the land.  WOW!!!!  Wish I could have seen those!!!!!  {#emotions_dlg.w00t} !!!!

10 YEARS?!?!?....Are you kidding?...It's felt like 10 MINUTES.....SHEESH!!

As I walked into QVC ten years ago, I was hoping to last at least ten days... that would give me enough time to get all the Show Hosts autographs, tee hee hee (seriously, though, that's true).  I remember standing at the front doors that read, "Welcome to QVC".

As I stood there, people whisked by, all the hustle, bustle and buzz…..I stared at the sign and a huge smile spread across my face. I finally made it, somehow, some way.. I made it. With shaking hands, I took a picture of the sign, with high hopes, I walked into the building and stopped at the security desk, "Antonella Nester here, reporting for duty", I smirked. I dreamt of this day for many years, I watched QVC for decades, I followed the Show Hosts, I knew every product, every guest... I LOVED QVC and so very badly wanted to be a part of it. I was the viewer that they plucked off of the family room couch and put in front of the camera, no television experience, no sales background, no business sense, no NOTHING!! They were taking a big chance on me and I refused to let them down. I had two big fears:

1. Would Mary Beth Roe, Lisa Robertson and the other Hosts be as wonderful as they appear on TV?

2. Can I really do this job, fill those expectations that they hoped for me?

Well, the answer to number 1 became evident right away and has continued to this day: YES, they are even more wonderful than they appear on TV. Always there to lend a hand, give good advice and just generally awesome to hang out with. I still pinch myself when Marybeth and I are having a conversation and I'm looking at her beautiful blue eyes, thinking, "Sheesh, that is Mary Beth frickin’ Roe!!"…. Or the first time Lisa called my home and the caller ID said, "Lisa Robertson", my Hubby and I just stared at it and neither of us wanted to pick it up, "You pick it up………no, YOU pick it up!"……….we wanted it to go to voice mail, so we had proof that she actually called. Tooooo funny!! {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

I tried soooo hard to do a good job, I knew I was starting with nothing, just pure passion for the job,,,, it was my dream and I was going to chase it with everything I had. QVC was so supportive and encouraging, but the biggest support I received was from YOU - the Viewers. God bless YOU, as YOU must have had the patience of all the Saints combined.  YOU watched me struggle, learn and make huge blunders, night after night after night. It was YOUR  kindness, YOUR warmth and forgiveness and YOUR endless ways of cheering me on, that kept me coming back. I'm going to be honest with you here, those other Show Hosts make it look so darn easy... IT'S NOT!!  LOL   (Seriously, it's not). The job alone is a handful, but then there are those days that your life isn't going so great, worries about your kids, a sick family member, your dog passes on and soooo much more. You still go on the air and try to give a little smile.  It is YOU who pulls me through those tough days.  It is YOU who makes me feel better... And YOU don't even know it. I remember, before I worked at QVC, I felt a connection with the Hosts………now, as a Host, I feel a connection with the Viewers. I feel like I know you and I take much joy, appreciation and love in counting YOU ALL as part of my friends and family. These ten years have gone by so quickly and I am grateful to QVC for taking a chance on me and I love YOU ALL for letting me be a small part of YOUR life... YOU are a big part of my life. I love you all and thank you so very, very much for being with me all these years.

Xoxoxo,

A

Ps. I did get all the Show Host's autographs... AWESOME!! ;)

Strength, courage, a trail blazer, role model and a Hero.... THAT'S MY DADDY!!

Coming to this country with a wife, two kids and one on the way (me), could not have been easy.

Daddy didn't read or speak English well, but he always wanted to chase the American Dream since he was a little boy.  He worked hard, was honest and chased his dream. Growing up, I learned not just by listening to his wise advise, but by watching him. He always told me, "Antonella, here in America, you can be anything you want to be, chase your dreams".

He also always said, "You can be happy or you can be sad, it's your choice". With the support, love and guidence from both of my Parents, I chase my dreams and I do it happily.

Thank you Daddy, for always supporting me, loving me no matter what, showing me the difference between right and wrong and making sure that Jesus is always in my heart, in my words and in my actions. I could not have a better Father……….Happy Father's Day!!! I love you!!

July’s Hotties – Ravishing Rubies

$

There’s no place like home….. there’s no place like home…..

How many of you have watched “The Wizard of OZ” and DROOLED over those “Ruby Slippers” that Dorothy sparkled at us???!?  As a little girl, it was at that moment that I fell in love with July’s birthstone…. The Ruby.  Nothing else is quite like it in all the gemstones.  It’s rich and deep, yet still vibrant and alive.  Ruby symbolizes devotion, integrity, courage and happiness.

Look at these gorgeous examples, from left to right:

Judith Ripka Sterling 1.50ct Ruby & Bead Hinged Cuff

Pave' Gemstone and White Zircon Sterling Band Ring

Judith Ripka Sterling Gemstone Monaco Ruby Ring

Judith Ripka Sterling 12.6ct Ruby & Diamonique Drop Earrings

Sandra Singh Gemstone and Sterling Bead Necklace

This gem rates an 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale and they are in the corundum family of stones – the same as sapphire.  They are the 3rd strongest stone in all the world – after diamonds and moissonite.  The name 'ruby' comes from the Latin word 'rubeus,' meaning 'red.’  The ruby is considered one of the four precious stones, together with the sapphire, the emerald and the diamond.

A symbol of love and immortality, the ruby has been the focus of many myths and legends throughout the centuries. In ancient times, Hindus believed rubies possessed an inextinguishable inner fire, causing the gemstones to shine through clothing. The vibrant, red gem was commonly thought by some cultures to bless wearers with health, wealth, wisdom and success in affairs of the heart.

Ruby is one of the sexiest gemstones; hot with it’s passionate red shade.  As the weather gets hotter so do the birthstones and you, July Babies, are no exception!  You are Smokin’ HOT and I totally dig your stone! {#emotions_dlg.tt1}

The glowing ruby should adorn,

All those who in July are born,

For this they’ll be exempt and free,

                               From Love’s doubts and anxiety.

The Balcony of Life

When I travel to Italy, it feels like coming home…..not because I am not proud to be an American – I AM!  1/2 of my family is still in Italy and the other 1/2 is here in the United States.  A lot of the time I feel torn between the two - because I love both families and both countries.  This summer was so special to me because my kids were going to experience the home my mother grew up in;  the home my sisters were born in and the authentic Italian food, language and love that has surrounded me my whole life.  We were just a few miles from Marano Marchesato!!!

It is also such a place of heritage, family memories and stories….stories that I have heard since I was a baby about my mother and her sister, Maria growing up in Nonna’s house.

One of the most special stories my mother told me and my sisters over and over is of a regular day in their little house in Marano Marchesato.

The winding cobblestone streets and little alleys with freshly washed clothes fluttering on the line and the wafting scent of the day's fresh pasta sauce simmering in the kitchen would be as vivid for me as my mom told it as if I was actually there!

She told us that our ma and aunt were upstairs playing while she was downstairs sweeping the steps (for any of you Italians out there – you will understand just how important that job was!!!! {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes})  A beggar was coming down the street and my Nonna yelled up to her daughters to get the money that was on her dresser for the unfortunate man.  Kids being kids, my mom and aunt grabbed the money and threw it over the balcony to the waiting man below.  As he stooped to retrieve the coins, my Nonna said “Don’t you dare pick up that money”  and called her girls to the street.  She told them to pick up every single coin and to hand it to the man with respect.  After the man walked away, she said, “You must always give with grace and respect because you can never understand how hard it was to ask for help.  It is a honor and a blessing that we are able to help someone.”

I have always remembered that lesson – and my mom, aunt and all my sisters did too.  And here we were, in Italy – standing on that EXACT SAME BALCONY!!!

Looking down on those COBBLESTONES

where the lesson was taught all those years ago.  Life really is a circle and now I stood there with my daughter and sons and told them the story again.....and now I have told it to you..........I hope it made you smile.  {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

P.S.  The church that is pictured in the "Welcome to Marano Marchesato" is 900 years old.  It is where my mom and dad got married and my two sisters, Dina and Maria Grazia were baptized!

Perfectly, Playful Peridot - August Birthstone

$

You, Me and Cleopatra, Priests and Pirates all love Peridot.  August babies, you are adorned with the mellow glow of peridot, also known as the evening emerald. Its clear, endearing and a true delight.  Truly unique of all the gemstones. it is the only one that only comes in a single color!  It rates a 6.5 - 7.0 on the Mohs scale and is a reliably durable gemstone.  It is mined world wide but Norway and The United States produce the finest examples.  The largest cut peridot was found on the island of Zabargad, weights 319 carats and belongs to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.

I am wearing 3 peridot marvelous rings in this photo:  the 3 stone peridot and white topaz ring,  3 ct peridot cluster ring and the Premier 3ct oval peridot and diamond ring.

This stone symbolizes love, warmth and openness.  Pirates and Priests revered it because it was thought to ward off evil.

Check out this stunning peridot cross and this 28 carat peridot bracelet: (which I also HAD to wear in my photos!  {#emotions_dlg.blush})

Many of Cleopatra's jewels contained peridots and Napolean gifted one to his beloved Josephine, as a symbol of his undying love.

A true gift from Mother Nature and the heavens, because some come from volcanos and some from meteorites.   In Russia, there are some cut peridots from a meteorite that came down in Eastern Siberia in 1749. (how cool is that?!?!  {#emotions_dlg.w00t})

Here's a beautiful, classic, timeless way to wear your birthstone:  a cushion cut faceted peridot pendant (chain included) and peridot love knot stud earrings.

So, you August girls, unite and be proud of your gleaming, green glorious birthstone.  You are unique - and definitely a one of a kind gem!!!  Green Goddesses from the Heavens and from the Earth!

Happy Happy Birthday!

My Trip to Italy - Anybody Hungry for Italian Food?

I have told you how important family is to me and to my family in Italy.  Now I want to share some photos of our Second LOVE – the FOOD!  {#emotions_dlg.w00t}  How to describe to you the difference between American Pizza and Italian pizza?

I guess it isn’t possible … Italian pizza is such a joy – such an abundance of flavors and textures bursting in your mouth … doesn’t sound like Domino’s huh?  LOL  {#emotions_dlg.lol}

And I can’t forget to say that all of the food in Italy is made from scratch… baked or cooked fresh THAT DAY….sometimes even the vegetables – and probably the herbs were PICKED that very day!!  UG!  My mouth is watering!

Maybe it's the sauce

Here's my recipe for Red Sauce - see if it makes a difference!  {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Food is a way of life for my Italian family members.   For them it is a passion.  My Zia Maria thought nothing of cooking lunch AND dinner for over 20 people each and every day we stayed with them.

Every single meal was delectable from start to finish – and we always need a nap after!  LOL

She also made Veiteredre or the "Little Old Ladies".  We call it that because of cause of the wrinkled appearance the zucchini gives it. And if you grow your own zucchini, add the yellow flower from the plant to the ingredients.

Here Zia Maria is with the blossoms:

And here is the yummy finished product:

Here's the recipe if you want to try it:

Veiteredre ( Little Old Ladies)

Ingredients

2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp. salt
2 cups grated zucchini and the flowers from the plants if you grow them
Oil for frying

Heat oil in a 12 inch frying pan on high heat.

Combine ingredients and add to hot oil one tablespoon at a time until top of pan is covered. When golden brown, flip and fry on the other side until golden brown.

Remove from oil and drain on paper towel.

These were just a few of the amazing photos, dishes and a few of my family’s recipes for you.  I think I might have to do a second installement to this blog with more… if you liked it…let me know!

All my best,

Antonella

Flashback Friday! My Big Fat Southern/Italian Wedding! (Anniversary)

Welcome to a very special edition of Flashback Friday!  Here's a photo of my hubby and me on our wedding day: September 5, 1987…..28 years ago! OMG – look how young we both look!  The awesome man behind me is THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY, my Grandfather and the light of my life. When my Father was out working three jobs, this man stepped in, swooped me up and TAUGHT me how to shop!! We had the best times together and as you can see by the photo, he had a hard time giving me up to Hubby that day. Lol!

 Our wedding was held at the church I grew up in, Saint Theresa's. Our reception was at the Army War College. I don't really remember eating, but I do remember that I felt as if I was floating on air the whole day. It was kind of funny at times, half of the people were from the South (Hubby's side) and had thick Southern accents and the other half of the people were Italian (my side, duh) and also had thick accents ... Everyone had trouble understanding each other, BUT everyone had a BLAST……love truly is the universal language!!{#emotions_dlg.wub}

Here is my handsome dad walking me down the aisle:

And for a really far-back throwback photo, I included my mom and dad’s wedding day photo too.  Just looking at it gets me all teary.  They looked amazing!

Do you remember every minute of your wedding day or did it fly by in a blur?  I would love to hear your true love stories!  Tell me everything!!!!!

:-)  Xoxo  A

Eight years ago, I stood outside of a green room and was scared to death. My hands were shaking, my heart was pounding and there were beads of sweat quickly forming on my forehead. As a Show Host,  it is mandatory to meet with your on air guest an hour before the show.  It was my first time with Joan Rivers and I was a nervous wreck.

As I knocked on the door, I worried that I would be over run by the "Joan Rivers" we see as a Comedian and Red Carpet Critic....I stood frozen, waiting for the digs, the jokes, the snappy comments. A very quiet, humble lady opened the door and said, "Come in honey, take a seat". She looked like Joan, talked like Joan... But this was not the lady I knew from TV. Of course, it was Joan Rivers. She was kind, quiet, humble and very sweet. Joan started conversations about me and tried to find a common ground between us. She did everything she could to make me feel comfortable and at ease. She succeeded. After every show, she would always ask me if I liked anything and could she send it to my house. Joan was always thoughtful and giving.

Five years ago, the Catholic elementary school I attended as a child needed help. They asked for some autographed pictures of Joan, for a fund raiser. I don't like to ask people for things, but since this was for charity, I called David Dangle. Shortly after that, Joan made sure my school had boxes and boxes of all her products, autographed pictures and six tickets to her show in Hershey with backstage passes and personal meet and greet with Joan. The fund raiser was one of the best our school ever had, thanks to Joan. Later, during one of our shows, she said,"you know, Antonella, just because I'm Jewish, doesn't mean I don't love the Catholics...............my best friend is a Nun".  We laughed, because she was half joking, but half serious too. Her generosity and kindness to everyone was the best part of her character.

A while back, during a commercial break, Joan asked me if GPS's really work and are they easy to use. She said she always gets lost driving to Melissa's. I told her I got 30% off and would send one to her.  She was soooo tickled about the savings. Here is the funny note she sent me.

I thought it was very impressive that a lady of her time restraints had a moment to send such a sweet note. She had good manners and was very thankful for any kind deed someone did for her.

I am very, very sad.  I loved being around her. Joan Rivers was truly one of the nicest people ever. She didn't have a mean bone in her body and always reached out to help any one...even strangers. I love her very much and will miss her every day. God bless her family and friends.

JOAN, MAKE GOD LAUGH AND JESUS TOO.

All my love,

Antonella

Stunning Sapphires

Oooooh September Babies..... I envy you!  Your birthstone is my most favorite color - - Sapphire Blue!!!!  It's deep, it's rich, it's vibrant and regal!

I loved trying on your birthstone and I especially like the wearability of this Sandra Sing Bead Necklace:

Long ago it was believed that sapphires represented "divine favor" so they were the gemstone of choice for kings and high priests.  The British Crown Jewels are filled with large, blue sapphires and of course, who could forget the sapphire engagement ring that Princess Diana received from Prince Charles?   {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

Your birthstone is all about Truth, Sincerity and Faithfullness - three of my favorite qualities in a person.  It is strong and wearable for each and every day and rates a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale of gemstones.  Being corundum, it is the second hardest gemstone we have.... rating only slightly behind diamonds.

These qualities make them perfect to set in a ring like this Thai Blue Sapphire and White Zircon Flower Ring:

Sapphires - come in many different colors too - from the most popular blue to yellow, white, green and pink/orange which is called "padparadscha".  There is even a color changing variation that is very rare.  The only color that sapphires do NOT come in is red... because red corundum is a ruby.

Check out these two looks in blue sapphire earrings

1. Michael Beaudry Sapphire Halo Studs:

or

2.  Judith Ripka Pave Sapphire Earrings

The depth, the saturation of color - the flash - wow!  Kiss

These exquisite gems have been prized for thousands of years.  The Ancient Persians believed the earth rested on a giant sapphire and it's reflection colored the sky... what an image!  {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

It reminds me of this gorgeous Judith Ripka Sterling Ceylon Sapphire Ring - breath-taking!!!

You are "true blue" and gorgeous September babies .... and you deserve your high ranking on the gemstone scale.

Have a happy, healthy birthday fit for the regal beauties you are!

October's Outrageous Opals

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.......................... what?!?!?  Yup, that's what your October birthstone brings us....color, color and more color!  A rainbow of fiery shades captured in a gemstone.  It is a force of nature that swells within one stone - Opal!

It's essence is all about purity, hope and innocence - shown in that gorgeous Ethiopian Opal Sterling Cross Pendant on 18" Chain.

And yet, it has an allure to it that even Cleopatra used to enchant and entice Mark Anthony.

Both of these opal bracelets - the 6.30 ct tw Ethiopian Opal 8" Sterling Tennis Bracelet and the Or Paz Sterling 8" Ethiopian Opal Link Bracelet  show that "alluring" quality beautifully!

The October birthstone is three dimensional and captures colors like not other gemstone.  It invites you to explore it's depth of color and sparks your imagination with the ever changing movement of light within.

 Look at these three rings that all show such amazing play of color and depth!

1.   0.80 ct Ethiopian Opal Diamond Cut Sterling Ring

2.   1.70 ct tw Ethiopian Opal & Black Spinel Sterling Ring

3.   Or Paz Sterling 1.00cttw Teal Ethiopian Opal Garden Ring

Due to their uniqueness, extra care should be taken with these gems...treat your opal well!  Never use harsh chemicals to clean your opal pieces...simply wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

Although we most often see opals in white or black there are also fire opal that come in a wide range of colors - and that do not exhibit the play of color we see in the other varieties.  QVC offers orange fire opals and pink opals such as the ones in these Or Paz Sterling Leaf Design Gemstone Drop Earrings .

Did you know that opal deposits were found on Mars in 2008?!?!?  Who knew?! Wonder when the next rocket is leaving - and if they are taking passengers?!?!?  LOL

Have a wonderfully bright and colorful birthday October Babies!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Color Me Citrine - November's Birthstone - Kissed by the Sun

Everywhere you look in the month of November you see the gorgeous warm shades of yellow, orange and red leaves falling to the ground. November’s birthstone Citrine does a marvelous job at capturing that warm fall feeling.

There are very few true yellow gemstones. The name citrine is derived from the French word "citron" meaning lemon. Lemony, brisk, zesty sunshine hues draw you in and give you that warm, cozy feeling. If you are drawn to canary diamonds, maybe citrines can warm your heart and captivate you with their hue - and of course their affordability! Smile

Like these rings pictured below from left to right:

1. Honora 9mm Pearl and Gemstone Bronze Ring

2. Judith Ripka Sterling Citrine Ring

3. 3.50 ct tw Citrine & Diamond Cut White Topaz Sterling Ring

4. Barbara Bixby Sterling and 18K MultiGem Ring - the garnet looked pretty in the photo but it comes in citrine too!  {#emotions_dlg.blush}

5. Simply Stacks Sterling and Citrine Sweet Flower Ring

6. Simply Stacks Sterling Cushion Cut Citrine Ring

7. Simply Stacks Sterling Citrine Band Ring

8. Honora Cultured Pearl 9.5mm & Gemstone Sterling Ring

Aren't they just gorgeous?!?!?  {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

This gem rates a 7.0 on the Mohs hardness scale which makes it a very wearable and hardy stone. If properly taken care of, and kept from sharp blows or scratches, you citrine should last a lifetime.

Take a look at these two JAI by John Hardy pieces...all of that detail and craftsmanship in the Sukhothai Sterling and 14KT 5.55ct Pave' Gemstone Cuff and the matching ring !!!  They truly are signature pieces for November babies!

What was that?  Try them all on....don't mind if I do!!!!  {#emotions_dlg.lol}

You can clean these stones with almost any jewelry cleaner or even plain soap and water and a soft brush. Just make sure to dry thoroughly.

Citrines were a favorite gem used by the ancient Romans.  It also found favor with Hollywood starlets and was worn in huge carat weights by Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford during the Art Deco period.

Our Checkerboard Faceted Gemstone Stud Earring and our Judith Ripka Sterling Oval Earrings are not in those HUGE carat weights - but they are just right!

Citrine's color is thought to radiate positive energy. It is known as the 'success stone', since it is believed to promote prosperity and abundance, especially in situations involving business. Citrine has actually earned the nickname of 'the merchant's stone', owing to the fact that many businesses will keep citrine in their cash registers for good fortune.

Citrine is representative of loyalty, friendship and faithfulness.  And you November babies are definitely those things... as a matter of fact, it sounds like a description of my MA - she's a November baby too!  {#emotions_dlg.wub}

Enjoy your special day and your special birthstone!

XOXO,

Here's the Girl You Don't See on the Air

Today is a sad day for me. I put off writing this post for as long as possible, because I haven't been able to wrap my mind around it. As we all say good bye to Lisa Robertson, I reflect on all the great things we have done together, her support, her friendship and the kind of person she is.

A little history ...  I was a long time viewer, before joining the Host team. I loved watching her on QVC and simply couldn't believe I would actually get to work with her. I remember avoiding Lisa like the plague when I first started, because I was such a big fan and didn't want to say something stupid to her. Lisa felt the distance I would always put between us and finally, one day, asked if we could have a private word together. I will never forget this. I walked into her dressing room and she said, "Have I done something to offend you? You seem like you are avoiding me all the time." My mind was racing, as I realized that I had made someone I adore so much feel awful. The jig was up and I had to come clean and tell her what a goof-ball I really am. I apologized and told her how much of a fan I am and that she did absolutely nothing wrong to me ... that I was the one with a strange problem.  {#emotions_dlg.crying}  She laughed and our friendship started. Lisa is humble and kind. She is very insightful and cares about others.

Deep into the overnight shift is where all new show hosts start. At the time, we did not have hair and makeup stylist to help us, we did our own. I came from a medical background, not a beauty background or TV, or news or anything remotely close. I went to catholic school for 12 years, wore the same uniform everyday and had no sense of how to dress in normal clothes or do my hair and makeup. I remember sitting in my dressing room at 1:00am desperately trying to look as close as possible to the other girls, when I heard Lisa come in. She just finished her 11:00pm-1:00am shift. I was so frustrated, so embarrassed and so sad about not being able to fit in and look "right for TV".

As I stared at myself in the mirror, with tears in my eyes, I called out to her, "Lisa.... How do you get that hump on the back of your head? I don't know how to get my hair to do that!!!"

Lisa walks into my dressing room, fully armed with her makeup and hair arsenal and smiles, "let me help you out".... And boy did she ever. Every night I had to go on the air,  she would stay after her shift and help me with my hair, my makeup, she showed me how to understand clothing and even how to cross your legs a pretty way. Her shift would be over at 1:00am, but she would stay with me far into the night and help me. Sometime, she even sat with the producer during my late night shows and coached me from there. That girl is all heart. Lisa would be tired and sometimes sick, but she always put herself last and helped me, first.

Italy, Italy, Italy... it was one thing to dream of one day becoming a QVC show host, but I NEVER even allowed myself to even think for one minute, that someday I could do the Italy show with Lisa.. Are you kidding me?? {#emotions_dlg.blink}  Even a crazy person like me has limits to their delusional dreams.  But then again...as I sat on the set in Italy, looking at the castle

and all the beautiful jewelry, I kept worrying, "They're going to hate me", "What am I doing here?", "I must be crazy"... Lisa would guide me, calm me, help me and encourage me. She made everything all right. That's the kind of person she is. Lisa will reach out and help anyone with anything. Lisa helped me with the show, the set, my blue cards, gown..etc..........She made sure I was going to be ok, and because of her, I was. However, as hard as she tried to coach me on the delay during phone calls on air, I still kept messing those up.  {#emotions_dlg.blush}  LOL

At the end of our very long week and believe me, it's not what you might imagine. There isn't any "down time" (you prep, get hair/makeup, go to the set, do your show, go back to you hotel room, sleep and do it all again the next day. You see nothing, you see no one, you're there to work). Lisa came off of her last show and had not slept for 24 hours. I was just waking up, as I had finished my last show the day before. I knew she would be tired, but she surprised me (yet again). Lisa says, "Come on, we are going to Venice for the day, before we have to fly back tomorrow". I was shocked, I knew she was dead tired, but I also know how determined she is. Off to Venice we go!

Everyone knows what a history buff she is. Lisa walked me all around Venice, telling me every bit of history about the bridges, the palace, Saint Marks, the clock tower .... everything. Lisa is scary smart.

She made sure we took a speed boat and toured the canals.

During which, I made her sing the song from Beauty and the Beast "there goes the baker, with his tray, like always"... She sounded just like Bell. That's why I call her that. The funniest thing was all the men that were literally tripping over themselves when they would see her. They would say things about how beautiful she is in Italian, not knowing that I understood every word. Lisa never noticed. She never saw all the men looking at her, she never acted like she was any big deal. Lisa was just a regular girl walking around a town surrounded by water. This is one of the many things that make her even more beautiful...she doesn't really know it.

The countless lunches we've had, the movies we've gone to, the mani/pedi episode, dancing in Vicenza, our early morning walks that she made me do...  {#emotions_dlg.laugh}  There are so many other memories that I could take your time up with, but I will be respectful.

Through the last ten years, I have tried so hard to give her back at least a little of what she has given me, I have failed at that. But I want everyone to know that Lisa is full of goodness, kindness, generosity and beauty beyond physical appearance. She is funny and scary smart. Lisa is loyal, caring and loving. Once she touches your heart, you just love her forever. I can't even tell you how much I will miss being with her in the host lounge. Hearing her say, "Hey Girl".

So to Lisa Robertson, I say... HEY BELL, I LOVE YOU FOR ALWAYS!!

Xoxo
